Growing
up on a farm in Northern Minnesota, Alia sang for her audience
of cows and got off the bus once a week at her piano teacher’s
house. Eventually, her family moved to Tamarack, MN-population:
53 people. Despite her inherent love of nature and solitude, Alia
quickly realized it may be a difficult place to pursue a career
as a musician. And so, she packed up her car and transported across
the country to her brothers couch in Portland, Oregon
Being
proficient as a singer, guitarist, and pianist, Alia’s music has
been as diverse as the animals on her farm. She has starred in
musicals and operas, lead bluegrass and folk groups, played keys
in successful indie-rock bands, and provided classical and jazz
piano at various formal events. She has shared the stage with
several national acts, including Hot Buttered Rum, Brenda Wieler,
and the Lake Superior Youth Chorus (as a guest soloist). In addition
to her performing accomplishments, her insights on songwriting
have recently been published in the nationally distributed publication,
Meaning and Purpose.
